JSA has elected its new joint managing partners and executive committee to bring fresh perspectives and continuity to the operation of the firm.

The newly formed five-member executive committee will comprise Amar Gupta, Vivek Chandy, Lalit Kumar, Varghese Thomas and Vikram Raghani. Gupta and Chandy are also joint managing partners.

Chandy first assumed office as a joint managing partner in January 2019, making this latest appointment his third consecutive term. Chandy is currently the co-chair of the corporate practice and has spent more than 22 years at the firm. Thomas, a member of the outgoing executive committee, has also been re-elected.

Gupta is a seasoned disputes practitioner with more than 30 years of experience and 27 of those have been with JSA. He has held various management and practice leadership roles.

Kumar is a new entrant to the executive committee and has worked at JSA for more than two decades.

The new executive committee also reflects JSA’s pan-India representation across key locations in India, with Chandy based in Bengaluru, Gupta in New Delhi, Raghani and Thomas in Mumbai and Kumar in Gurugram.

On his re-election as joint managing partner, Chandy said, “I am humbled by the trust and confidence reposed in me by the partnership. Reflecting on the past six years of leading the firm with Amit, it’s satisfying how JSA has been able to achieve a sustained growth trajectory, with support from the partnership.”

He added, “I congratulate Amar on being elected as the [joint managing partner]. I welcome Varghese, along with Vikram Raghani and Lalit Kumar, on board the firm’s leadership as [executive committee] members.

“Working with Amar and the new [executive committee], which will comprise some of our finest young lawyers, my focus will be to ensure continued growth, build strategic capabilities and empower the excellent next generation of our partners in line with our broader vision to make JSA the finest law firm in India.”

On his election as joint managing partner, Gupta said, “I am grateful for the trust and confidence my partners have placed in me. There are exciting new areas of law that the firm needs to focus on while continuing to grow. I believe JSA has the talent and potential to emerge as a market leader in these and other areas of legal practice.”

The new leadership will take charge from 1 April 2025.
