Gaurav Rana, formerly a partner at Indo Legal Services, has launched his boutique law firm, Rana & Partners, headquartered in New Delhi.

In an exclusive with India Business Law Journal, Rana shared his journey and his decision to go independent.

“As businesses increasingly seek trusted, long-term advisers rather than engagement-specific counsel, we see strong demand for a firm that combines specialised disputes expertise with accountability and genuine accessibility,” said Rana, elaborating on the growing need for transparency.

On his career trajectory, Rana said, “Over the years, I have had the opportunity to advise and represent a diverse range of clients, corporates, financial institutions, resolution professionals and promoters, across complex litigation, insolvency proceedings, arbitral disputes and regulatory matters.

“Each engagement deepened my conviction that there was strong demand for a disputes practice that combined genuine specialisation with commercial intelligence, strategic continuity, and the kind of sustained partner involvement that produces the best outcomes for clients.

“Establishing Rana & Partners was the natural expression of that conviction.

“The decision to move on stemmed from reflection rather than restlessness, a growing sense that the time was right to channel everything I had learned into building an independent practice with a distinct vision and identity.

“[I wanted to establish] a practice dedicated exclusively to disputes, where I could bring together the depth of experience accumulated over the years and translate it into a focused, agile and client-centric firm.”

He added, “Rana & Partners is built exclusively around disputes: litigation, insolvency, arbitration and competition law.

“Our approach to each matter is strategic rather than merely procedural. Clients engaging us receive direct, continuous partner-level involvement from inception to resolution. There are no handoffs, no fragmented ownership across teams and no dilution of focus.

“The firm is particularly well-positioned in matters where the dispute cannot be properly understood without unpacking the underlying corporate or financial architecture.”
