Faraz Alam Sagar will be joining CMS IndusLaw as an equity partner and head of dispute resolution and white-collar crimes, and will be based at the firm’s Mumbai office.

In an exclusive with India Business Law Journal, Sagar said, “CAM [Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas] was a very important chapter in my career, and I remain grateful to Mr [Cyril] Shroff, the colleagues I worked with and the clients I had the opportunity to advise.

“The move to CMS IndusLaw was driven by the opportunity to take on a broader leadership role and to help build a focused practice across dispute resolution, international arbitration, cross-border litigation, white-collar crime, regulatory enforcement and international sanctions advisory.”

Sagar will lead CMS IndusLaw’s practice across cross-border litigation, regulatory investigations, white-collar crime, corporate and forensic investigations, and international sanctions and advisory work.

“My focus will be on strengthening the firm’s capabilities, both international and domestic, in complex disputes, white-collar crime, investigations, regulatory enforcement, and sanctions-related matters, particularly where clients are dealing with high-stakes and multi-jurisdictional issues.” Sagar adds.

“This builds directly on my earlier work, which has involved high-stakes dispute work across jurisdictions. CMS IndusLaw’s domestic presence, together with the wider CMS network, allows us to support clients across jurisdictions, and across the full spectrum of contentious, regulatory, criminal, commercial and reputational risks.”

He brings more than two decades of experience handling complex, multi-jurisdictional matters. He has advised and represented governments, multinational corporations, and high-net-worth individuals across both contentious and non-contentious mandates.

The response of clients “has been very positive and encouraging”, Sagar said.

“Clients have been supportive, and many have recognised the value of the broader platform, particularly for complex, cross-border and high-stakes matters. My priority remains to continue serving clients with the same commitment, discretion and strategic focus, while bringing them the benefit of CMS IndusLaw’s wider domestic and international capabilities.”

Before joining CMS IndusLaw, Sagar served as co-head and partner at Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas. He has also worked with leading international firms, including Freshfields Bruckhaus Deringer and PricewaterhouseCoopers in Frankfurt. He is a permanent member of the Bombay Bar Association.
