Simpson Thacher & Bartlett has announced plans to reopen an office in Singapore to strengthen the firm’s capabilities on cross-border transactions across the Asia-Pacific region.
Simpson Thacher closed its Singapore office in 2003 after managing partner Alan Brenner decided to return to New York.
As part of the move, the firm has named Hong Kong partner Ian Ho and New York partner Anthony King as co-heads of its Asia private equity practice, with both set to be based in Singapore.
They will be joined by Hong Kong-based partners Tony Liu, who will lead the funds practice in Singapore, and Adam Furber, who is head of the firm’s Asia funds team. Theodore Heng and Carolyn Wong will also join as partners once the Singapore office opens.
Ho advises on complex cross-border M&A transactions in the US and throughout the APAC. He also specialises in acquisitions, divestitures, leveraged buyouts, joint ventures, and minority and strategic investments.
Meanwhile, King focuses on corporate acquisitions, dispositions, joint ventures, minority and strategic investments, and other M&A and corporate transactions.
Heng joined from Baker McKenzie Wong & Leow, a member firm of Baker McKenzie in Singapore, where he served as a principal in its M&A practice. He advises on global financial sponsors and multinational corporates, with a focus on cross?border private equity and M&A deals across the APAC.
Wong joined from Latham & Watkins, where she most recently served as counsel for three years. Her expertise lies in infrastructure funds and energy majors, and also covers M&A related to energy and infrastructure assets, large-scale joint ventures and project development work.
