Jakarta-based law firm Simbolon & Partners has announced a partnership with UAE-based Khairallah Advocates and Legal Consultants to address the increasing volume of cross-border transactions between the UAE, Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC) region and Southeast Asia, particularly Indonesia.

Khairallah Advocates founder and managing director Jouslin Khairallah told Asia Business Law Journal that Emirati and GCC clients commonly seek advice on investment structuring, local compliance, M&A transactions, and dispute resolution in Indonesia, while Indonesian clients often require assistance in establishing business presence, contract enforcement, and arbitration proceedings in the UAE.

Such increasing cross-regional activity has also been echoed by Simbolon & Partners founder and managing partner Yudianta Medio Natamana Simbolon.

“Through this partnership, we aim to strengthen our capabilities in handling cross-border advisory and transactional work, particularly in matters involving inbound and outbound investment between Southeast Asia and the Middle East,” said Natamana.

He said these matters included joint ventures, M&A, infrastructure and real estate projects, dispute resolution, and regulatory compliance.

Through the alliance with Simbolon & Partners, Khairallah said her firm aimed to mutually support talent development and broaden the range of practice areas offered, including investment advisory, commercial litigation and compliance-related services, tailored for regional investors and conglomerates.

She pointed to an uptick in bilateral trade and investment projects, particularly in the areas of infrastructure, halal industry compliance, fintech, energy and real estate development.

In addition, Khairallah said that with this alliance, matters requiring simultaneous multi-jurisdictional input, such as contract negotiations, investment compliance or enforcement of arbitral awards, could now be managed more efficiently through their aligned efforts.

Natamana said this partnership allowed Khairallah Advocates to confidently refer and collaborate with Simbolon & Partners on Indonesian corporate and legal matters for existing or potential clients seeking reliable representation in Indonesia.

This partnership is a non-exclusive strategic alliance, based on shared values, mutual referrals, and operational co-operation, says Khairallah. Both firms retain the flexibility to collaborate with others as needed, adds Natamana.
