Economic Laws Practice partner Mumtaz Bhalla has been elected as the vice president of the Society of Indian Law Firms (SILF) following the organisation’s recent elections. Bhalla’s experience extends across litigation, arbitration and dispute resolution, and is an advocate-on-record with the Supreme Court of India.

On her new appointment, Bhalla told India Business Law Journal, “I am honoured to have been elected as vice president of the SILF. This role represents not just a personal milestone, but also an opportunity to contribute meaningfully to the legal profession.”

She added that the appointment of a woman to the position was significant. “This appointment is a reflection of the progress we are making as a profession — recognising merit, capability and vision. I hope this serves as encouragement for many female lawyers who are ready to lead and shape the future of our profession.”

SILF president Lalit Bhasin extolled confidence in the newest addition to his team, referring to Bhalla as an “eminent lawyer”, who has gained recognition and has an excellent record. Bhalla’s “election by SILF members to the position of vice president … will considerably strengthen SILF and would generate more activities”, he added.

The SILF is a collective and representative body of Indian law firms with many top corporate law firms as its members.
