Iqbal Khan will be joining the Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas (CAM) corporate practice, along with his 12-member team, and he will be based at the firm’s Mumbai office. His move comes less than a year after joining JSA.
Speaking exclusively to India Business Law Journal, Khan said, “I joined Cyril Amarchand Mangaldas because it is one of the most respected and influential legal brands — not just in India, but across Asia and the EMEA [Europe, the Middle East and Africa] region.
“The decision was a natural one. CAM’s deep-rooted commitment to excellence, integrity and delivering commercially astute legal advice mirrors my own values. Over the years, many of our clients — including global leaders in their industries — have consistently expressed strong admiration for the CAM brand, particularly for its visionary leadership under Cyril.”
Last year, Khan and Ambarish, both equity partners had departed from Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co (SAM) to join JSA. Khan had been JSA’s national corporate lead and equity partner for less than a year, while Ambarish joined as an equity partner.
Khan is a transactional lawyer known for advising a broad range of clients, including major global financial sponsors and strategic investors. His practice focuses on private equity investment, private and public M&A (both domestic and cross-border), joint ventures and foreign investment laws.
When asked if Ambarish would be joining him, Khan told IBLJ, “Ambarish has decided to return to Shardul Amarchand Mangaldas & Co, and I sincerely wish him all the very best in this next chapter of his career.”
SAM has confirmed Ambarish’s joining via an announcement.
Khan’s experience is broadly varied, spanning multibillion-dollar transactions. He has advised on some of the most complex and high-profile mergers, acquisitions and divestitures across sectors such as life sciences, healthcare, pharmaceuticals, media and entertainment, technology, financial services, consumer products, data centres, manufacturing and green investment. He has played a key role in several deals in India and across Asia.
Speaking to IBLJ on his vision for his new role, Khan said, “I look forward to building on the strong momentum — both my team’s and CAM’s.”
“My focus will be on leading strategic, high-impact transactions, mentoring and nurturing talent, and contributing meaningfully to CAM’s vision of being the go-to firm for sophisticated, solution-oriented legal advice in India and globally.”
