Cooley has bolstered the talent at its Beijing office with the addition of capital markets partner Xu Yilin.
Xu was a former Beijing-based partner at Skadden’s corporate group. He specialises in advising tech and life sciences companies on US and Hong Kong IPOs, M&A, and private equity investments.
In 2024, Xu, along with other lawyers from Skadden, advised Midea Group on its HKD31 billion listing on the HKEX. In the same year, Skadden announced the closure of its Shanghai office due to a slow market.
As 2025 has just begun, several international law firms have kickstarted the year with the expansion of their China practice. Asia Business Law Journal, a sister publication of China Business Law Journal, reported that former Herbert Smith Freehills partner Michelle Li had joined Rajah & Tann’s Shenzhen office, while Ashurst had appointed secondary market specialist James Ford as a partner at its Hong Kong branch.
