Quintet plays role in Ultraman toymaker’s HKD1.67bn IPO

Freshfields, Jingtian & Gongcheng and Campbells advised Bloks Group on its HKD1.67 billion (USD215 million) Hong Kong listing. King & Wood Mallesons and Clifford Chance acted as counsel for the underwriters.

Bloks Group appointed Freshfields as its Hong Kong and US law counsel for this IPO, Jingtian & Gongcheng advised the toymaker on PRC law, and Campbells acted as its Cayman Islands law counsel.

The underwriters — Goldman Sachs, Huatai International and Futu Securities — were advised by Clifford Chance on Hong Kong and US law and King & Wood Mallesons on PRC law.

Bloks Group is a toymaker that focuses on designing, developing and selling building blocks and assembly-style toys. It had obtained non-exclusive licences for around 50 renowned brands, including Ultraman, Transformers and Naruto. During the past two years, the company’s main revenue has stemmed from the sale of Ultraman products.

The prospectus states that the company reversed a loss of RMB356 million in 2021 into a profit of RMB72.9 million in 2023. As of 30 June last year, its profit further increased to RMB292 million.
