Rajah & Tann Asia has named partner Michelle Li as the new head of international arbitration, construction and projects for China, leveraging her more than two decades of China-focused expertise to boost the firm’s practice in the region.
Patrick Ang, managing partner of Rajah & Tann Singapore, highlighted China’s importance as a key growth market, particularly amid a surge in Chinese investments into Southeast Asia, the Middle East and other regions.
“Rajah & Tann Asia’s strength in alternative dispute resolution fits well for Shenzhen, which is being positioned as an international arbitration hub and Michelle’s specialised knowledge in this field makes her an ideal fit to help us expand our capabilities and services in this area,” Ang told Asia Business Law Journal.
Li succeeded Hew Kian Heong, who now leads the Shenzhen representative office. Before joining Rajah & Tann Asia, Li worked as a China-based partner at Pinsent Masons, and recently at Herbert Smith Freehills with Heong. She has more than two decades of experience in construction and infrastructure disputes and brings a deep understanding of the Chinese and international markets. Her practice spans advising clients across the energy, chemicals, mining, rail and power generation sectors.
“Her leadership will infuse fresh perspectives into our practice and strengthen our position in key international markets,” said Ang.
Li will lead the international arbitration, construction and projects practice at the Shenzhen office, working closely with Heong.
