JSA has advised Tata Technologies on its joint venture with BMW Holding in the Netherlands to provide automotive software, including vehicle solutions for BMW Group’s premium vehicles.
“BMW TechWorks India, a joint venture between BMW Group and Tata Technologies, is poised to shape the future of the global automotive industry,” said Iqbal Khan, one of the lead transaction partners on the JSA team.

Khan led the JSA team with partner Devika Menon, and assistance from senior associate Megha Diddi and associate Subham Biswal as well as guidance from the competition and employment teams.
The law firm representing BMW Holding was not disclosed for confidentiality reasons.
The transaction was completed on 8 October 2024, after receiving approvals from antitrust regulators in Germany, Poland and China, and fulfilling certain operational conditions.
The joint venture entity, BMW TechWorks India, is the first collaboration between the two automotive conglomerates. The 50:50 joint venture will complement BMW Group’s global strategy by developing scalable, seamless software solutions for next-generation vehicles and enhancing the digital experiences for customers.

BMW TechWorks India will work on developing software-defined vehicle technology and IT services for BMW’s global operations, and offices will be in Pune, Bengaluru and Chennai.
