The Singapore Corporate Counsel Association (SCCA) brought together in-house legal professionals at its latest First Thursday night event on 5 June 2025.
Held at Baia at Esplanade Mall, Singapore, the attendees reconnected over drinks and exchanged insights while enjoying the evening’s atmosphere.
The event was open exclusively to in-house corporate counsel, reinforcing the SCCA’s commitment to providing accessible community building opportunities.
Held on the first Thursday of each month, First Thursdays is one of the association’s earliest initiatives to foster professional rapport outside of formal structures. “Originally, it served as an informal gathering where legal professionals could meet in a relaxed setting over drinks to exchange ideas and experiences without the constraints,” said Jerrick Lim, a member of the SCCA and one of the event’s early advocates.
After the pandemic, the series was revived in 2022 by Lim and Wong Yi, SCCA’s vice president. “Our approach was deliberately simple: focus first on providing excellent hospitality — good drinks and good food — and let meaningful conversations and genuine connections flow naturally from there,” said Lim.
From just 10 attendees at its post-pandemic relaunch, First Thursdays has grown steadily with support from sponsors Axiom, Helmsman Law and Vistra. First Thursdays shows that the most impactful professional growth sometimes comes from candid conversations over drinks, not formal seminars.
