RDS Partnership has formed a strategic alliance with China’s DeHeng Law Offices to support Malaysian clients expanding into the country, as well as Chinese clients investing in Malaysia and the wider region.

“From RDS’ perspective, the alliance is aimed at strengthening its cross-border advisory and transactional offering, particularly in corporate and M&A, foreign direct investment, regulatory advisory, projects and dispute resolution,” Saravana Kumar, founding partner and head of tax, SST (sales and service tax) and customs, told Asia Business Law Journal.

The alliance is structured as an exclusive strategic collaboration, with both firms remaining independent. RDS and DeHeng Law Offices will work closely on select client matters through co-ordinated advisory teams and potential reciprocal secondments.

RDS was also exploring the establishment of a dedicated China desk in Malaysia to streamline co-ordination of China-related matters, said Kumar. However, there were no immediate plans for a permanent on-the-ground presence in China, he added.
