Rajah & Tann Singapore has hired Michelle Zheng as a partner in its banking and finance and aviation practice groups to deepen its transportation finance capabilities.
“Michelle [Zheng’s] experience across jurisdictions and her familiarity with both traditional and emerging financing models, whether it’s advising on aircraft leasing for airline subsidiaries or leading large, syndicated financings, puts her in a strong position to help clients navigate these developments,” said Ng Kim Beng, managing partner at Rajah & Tan Singapore.
Beng said this hire was driven by the growing demand for legal support in cross-border transport financing, particularly in aviation and maritime sectors. There were also nuanced financing structures in aviation and shipping, especially with the rise of ESG-linked instruments and alternative leasing models, which had introduced new complexities for clients, said Ng.
She brings more than 18 years of experience in aircraft and ship financing, as well as expertise in general banking, finance and non-contentious ship financing.
Her practice involves advising a diverse range of clients, including local and international banks, financial institutions, export credit agencies, airlines, shipowners, charterers and lessees on secured and unsecured asset financing transactions.
In her new role at Rajah & Tann Singapore, Zheng would focus on transport-related financing and leasing matters covering aircraft, ships and other assets, said Ng. She would also advise on broader banking and finance transactions, including secured and unsecured lending, added Ng.
