Pathik Arora, formerly at Senvion Wind Technology, has taken over as general counsel at Engie India.
“Having worked with Senvion for six years learning most of the nuances of the wind turbine OEM [original equipment manufacturing] business from my role and being a part of the survival to growth story of Senvion in India, I wanted to see the renewable energy business from an independent power producer (IPP) perspective, which is highly diverse, where navigating legal and regulatory challenges is a daily job,” said Arora.
Arora brings more than 22 years of diverse legal experience, including expertise in M&A, compliance and governance across multiple sectors. Before joining Senvion, he was a senior partner at Hammurabi and Solomon Advisory, and vice president – legal and secretarial at Azure Power and assistant general counsel at InterGlobe Hotels (Accor JV).
His career also includes roles as associate partner at ILF Advocates, legal counsel at Technip KTI and company secretary at Scicom Infotech.
Arora added that Engie India was set to develop various renewable energy projects in the next five to 10 years, given that it was one of the key markets for the growth and development of the renewable energy business.
“Engie group through Engie India wants to further strengthen its position in 含羞草社区 leading clean power generation companies with a focus on decarbonisation and achieving its net-zero carbon target by 2045,” he said.
Arora said he was keen on learning the “finer nuances of the IPP business”, which included an in-depth understanding of the legal and regulatory landscape from an “IPP’s lens, and help the group achieve its targets for India by navigating and mitigating the risks”.
Speaking to India Business Law Journal on the challenges of the new role, Arora said, “With the ever evolving legal, real estate and regulatory landscape for the renewable energy sector in India, the dynamics of the country is very different from many other countries and navigating through the same is a constant challenge.”
