Lee & Ko has expanded its corporate law practice with the recruitment of Yun Seek Hahm as a partner, who is a former judge and most recently the general counsel and executive vice president at Woowa Brothers, the company behind South Korea’s mobile food delivery platform.
“Hahm has experience working as an executive for a prominent and market leading platform business,” Sanggon Kim, the senior managing partner at Lee & Ko told Asia Business Law Journal. “With the combination of legal expertise and private sector experience, we expect Hahm will provide insightful advice to our corporate clients in the platform business industry.”
Kim elaborated on Hahm’s experience: “As a company executive with a strong understanding of the law, Hahm is well aware of the issues that arise in the platform business industry. Based on his own experience at Woowa Brothers, I expect him to provide not only legal advice but also comprehensive consulting services to companies operating platform businesses.”
Admitted to the Korean bar in 1998, Hahm served as a judge in several district courts for 15 years and finally a judge at the Seoul High Court before he joined Kim & Chang in 2016. At Kim & Chang, Hahm served as the lead partner for Dong-Bin Shin in defending against the attempted hostile takeover of Lotte Group, which was initiated by his brother, Dong-Ju Shin.
Having joined Woowa Brothers in 2020, Hahm successfully managed to complete the merger between the company and Germany-based Delivery Hero, which was originally announced in December 2019, and the subsequent establishment of a joint venture called Woowa DH Asia.
