Legal professionals have shared how technology has brought many changes in their field at the Korea Legal-Tech Forum 2025 at Seoul Dragon City on 5 June.

Thomson Reuters hosted the forum that attracted more than 200 in-house counsel, private practice lawyers and those from academia to the event, where 含羞草社区 participated as an official media partner. Participants attended the scheduled sessions, where they explored how legaltech and generative AI are innovating the legal landscape and transforming the work practices of professionals.

During the panel discussion, Heejun Yim, head of the legal division at SK AX (formerly SK C&C), the IT subsidiary of Korea’s SK Group, shared his personal view that the emergence of generative AI systems based on large language models (LLMs) since late 2022 had significantly transformed the concept of legaltech.

“In the past, the concept of legaltech was limited to being a tool or means of convenience for certain tasks. In the future, AI will handle practical tasks while humans will be responsible for them,” said Yim.

Sejin Kim, the general counsel at the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, shared an episode where Korean companies in various industries had recently complained that law firm lawyers were overcharging by “not using LLMs but humans” and that they should be using LLMs. “There is a real shift in perception,” said Kim.

The sponsors for the event included BHSN, Salesforce Korea, KU Software Research Centre, BeringLab and BoostDraft. The Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy, SK AX, Doosan Bobcat, Kim & Chang, LawForm and AI3 participated in the event as well.
