International firm Kennedys has hired Iain Anderson as a partner in the Singapore office to grow the trade credit platform and deepen its insurance and marine practice both within the Lion City and across the wider region.

“Iain [Anderson] will be joining us as a partner with responsibility for broadening and deepening our marine, insurance and trade credit capabilities,” Anita Quy, joint managing partner for Kennedys’ Singapore office, told Asia Business Law Journal.

Quy said he would work with the firm’s marine and insurance partners within the Singapore office to grow these areas.

Anderson, set to join Kennedys in October with an associate and an administrative assistant, has been a partner at RPC Singapore since 2013. Prior to that, he spent 15 years as a partner at Ince & Co.

He is also an associate mediator with the Singapore Mediation Centre and has 30 years of experience working in the London, European and Asian insurance and reinsurance markets. His work focuses on marine, offshore energy, trade credit and commodities insurance.

Quy has also seen decarbonisation and digitisation creating new legal concerns for clients. Decarbonisation and the broader energy transition were transforming the marine and offshore energy sectors, raising complex regulatory and contractual questions, said Quy. Meanwhile, the adoption of new technologies across shipping, insurance and finance brought both opportunities and vulnerabilities, she added.

Anderson’s expertise sat squarely at the intersection of these issues, alongside the firm’s existing partners, said Quy.
