Han Kun Law Offices opened its Hangzhou office on 10 April, which is its 10th global branch, signalling a push into the Yangtze River Delta’s legal market, with a focus on the city’s burgeoning artificial intelligence sector.
Hangzhou, which has set its sights on becoming China’s leading hub for AI innovation, has attracted a cluster of internet giants and AI unicorns. Manycore Tech, one of the so-called “Six Little Dragons of Hangzhou”, is preparing to list on the HKEX on 17 April.
“In the entrepreneurial journey, Han Kun hopes not only to act as legal counsel to clients, but also become a longstanding strategic partner, advancing side by side with entrepreneurs and growing together,” the firm said in a press release.
The new office focuses on frontier sectors including AI, robotics, life sciences, intelligent vehicles and fintech. It provides legal support spanning corporate structuring, investment transactions, capital markets, data compliance, export controls, intellectual property and dispute resolution.
Former Beijing-based partner David Li is leading the office. He specialises in private equity and venture capital, domestic and overseas capital markets, M&A and foreign direct investment. He has been recognised as among China Business Law Journal’s A-List: Visionaries for two consecutive years.
Located at China Resources Building A, 1366 Qianjiang Road in Shangcheng district, the office shares its address with other Beijing-headquartered firms already in Hangzhou, including Zhong Lun Law Firm, Jingtian & Gongcheng and Dacheng Law Offices.
Han Kun has offices in Beijing, Shanghai, Shenzhen, Hong Kong, Haikou, Wuhan, Singapore, New York and Silicon Valley.
