Gibson Dunn & Crutcher has hired Hagen Rooke as a partner in Singapore, giving the firm an edge in the financial regulation and fintech sectors.

William Hallatt, partner and co-chair of Gibson Dunn’s financial regulatory practice group, emphasised that Rooke’s arrival would strengthen the team with his expertise and regional prominence.

“The connectivity between Asia and the US is growing, which positions firms like Gibson Dunn strongly in the market, particularly as some US firms scale back their presence in Greater China. Few firms offer the bench strength that we do in both tech and regulatory across all the world’s key financial centres, which has proven to be a competitive advantage,” Hallatt told Asia Business Law Journal.

Rooke brings experience advising financial institutions, corporates and trading firms. He was previously a partner at Reed Smith and worked as a managing associate at Linklaters. His expertise spans regulatory applications and notifications, governance and risk management, and regulatory investigations.

The firm has also expanded its financial regulatory practice globally, with new partners joining in New York, Washington DC and Dubai during the past year. “Hagen’s arrival allows us to provide the same market-leading coverage in Singapore that we provide in Hong Kong and elsewhere,” said Hallatt.
