Dentons Lee has hired Kyoung-ho Kim as a senior attorney in Seoul to strengthen its expertise and competitiveness across international construction, infrastructure and energy sectors, as well as in international litigation and arbitration.
“His joining the firm will bring his extensive hands-on experience in international construction contracts, disputes and arbitration, and will also serve the clients’ growing demand for strategic legal advice on various types of global projects and complex international disputes,” Hee-Jun Choi, chief managing attorney at Dentons Lee in Seoul, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Prior to joining Dentons Lee on 1 August, Kim served as a legal director at Onejoon, a battery materials equipment provider with 11 offices worldwide. He started his career at Yulchon in 2008 and subsequently practised as an in-house counsel at the overseas legal affairs team of POSCO, a South Korean steel manufacturer headquartered in Pohang, and at the United Arab Emirates nuclear power project of KEPCO, an electric power distribution company in South Korea. He then joined Yoon & Yang where he advised companies expanding into Southeast Asia while at the firm’s Ho Chi Minh City office.
Kim had advised on various types of international project contracts and resolved disputes relating to power plant and mega projects across various jurisdictions, including the Middle East, Southeast Asia, the US and Canada, said Choi.
He added that Kim would play a major role in the international construction and dispute resolution group at the firm.
Choi has also observed a growing demand for legal services arising from different jurisdictions across the globe as Korean companies expand their businesses around the world. Among other matters, the demand for legal services relating to nuclear power plant projects and small modular reactors in Europe, Africa and the US was growing fast, said Choi.
He noted that the addition of Kim, who had previously worked at the UAE nuclear power project site for several years for KEPCO, would meet such growing legal demand for the firm’s clients.
