As Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner (BCLP) prepares to close its Asia branches, two partners from its Hong Kong office specialising in construction, infrastructure and real estate — Glenn Haley and Wayne Ma — along with five lawyers, have joined CMS.
Haley, a Hong Kong legal veteran in construction, has been practising for more than four decades. He has advised the Hong Kong government and semi-governmental institutions in major infrastructure projects such as the Chek Lap Kok Airport, as well as in financial disputes. Before joining BCLP, he led the construction practice at Deacons and founded Haley & Co, which later merged with BCLP’s alliance firm.
Ma has focused on M&A and finance for more than 20 years, supporting clients in real estate, energy and infrastructure investments and financing across Asia, Europe and the US. Previously, he was a Shanghai-based partner at Paul Hastings and DLA Piper.
Last month, another former BCLP partner, Ilan Freiman, joined CMS and became co-head of the Asia real estate and infrastructure practice.
BCLP confirmed to our sister publication, Asia Business Law Journal, in March this year that the firm would wind down its Asia operation by the end of 2025, shuttering its Hong Kong and Singapore branches.
