US-based law firm Butler Snow has announced the closure of its sole office in Asia, located in Singapore.

The firm told Asia Business Law Journal: “While we are closing our Singapore-based partnership and office space, our firm will continue to serve clients in Singapore and the region.”

John Shoemaker, a Singapore-based partner at Butler Snow, will continue to reside in the country and serve clients. “There is a wide range of client service opportunities available to our industry through the spread of digital communication. I imagine that continued client introduction and service will be a blend of travel, video meetings and conference and webinar participation,” Shoemaker told Asia Business Law Journal.

Shoemaker will split his time between Singapore and London, working closely with teams across the firm’s global offices to maintain service continuity.

Butler Snow’s Singapore office was launched in 2016 when the firm first established its presence in the region, specialising in tax and wealth planning. The firm serves high-net-worth families and multinational corporations in the Asia-Pacific region.

Two partners from the firm recently joined Charles Russell Speechlys in Singapore.
