International firm Charles Russell Speechlys has recruited Gavin Margetson and Henry Winter, both from Mishcon de Reya, as partners in its commercial dispute resolution team in Singapore.
“The hires are part of a broader strategy to expand the firm’s disputes practice, particularly in international arbitration,” Simon Green, partner and head of Asia at Charles Russell Speechlys, told Asia Business Law Journal on the pair’s recruitment.
“Gavin and Henry have decades of experience advising on matters involving Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand and Vietnam. They bring with them an extensive network of contacts in those countries.”
Margetson has specialised in international arbitration and cross-border litigation for more than 25 years, and has been based in Southeast Asia since 2014, after working in Tokyo for 10 years and London for five years.
Before joining Mishcon de Reya in 2020, Margetson was a partner in the dispute resolution team at Herbert Smith Freehills (Tokyo, Bangkok and Singapore) before he led Bryan Cave Leighton Paisner’s regional arbitration hub in Singapore. He is admitted to practice in England and Wales, and has been called to the Singapore Bar.
Winter specialises in cross-border dispute resolution, with a focus on international commercial and investor-state arbitration, litigation and investigations. He has experience working with regulators across the Asia-Pacific region, representing multinational corporates, foreign investors and governments in complex disputes. Winter is admitted to practice in New South Wales, Australia and is a registered foreign lawyer in Singapore.
The recruitment of the duo follows the appointment of Tun Zaw Mra in the corporate team in Singapore earlier in January. The firm’s Singapore office was launched in 2023.
