Beijing-headquartered Yingke Law Firm has become the latest Chinese law firm to expand into Japan with the launch of an office in Tokyo.
Yingke, one of China’s largest law firms, hosted an office opening ceremony in Tokyo on 29 July, says a post on its official WeChat account. The Beijing-based firm’s Tokyo office launch comes about nine months after Shenzhen-headquartered Zhuo Jian Law Firm made Japan’s capital the destination for its first overseas branch in November last year.
Yingke’s new Tokyo office will be headed by partner Wu Ting – an English transliteration of the Chinese name 吴婷 – who served as a foreign law adviser at Nishimura & Asahi, one of Japan’s four largest law firms, between 2001 and 2009, according to Yingke’s official Chinese website.
Separately, the Japan Federation of Bar Associations has told Asia Business Law Journal by email that China-qualified Wu was officially registered as a foreign lawyer in Japan with the Dai-ichi Tokyo Bar Association on 1 July this year.
Having graduated from the University of Tokyo’s Graduate Schools for Law Politics in 2001, Wu had practised as a partner at Chinese law firms East & Concord Partners and Haiwen & Partners before joining Yingke in June last year.
Serving concurrently as a member of the Japan Trademark Association, Wu specialises in advising on matters concerning intellectual property rights, excluding patents, as well as China-Japan investment and M&A. Labour law, data compliance and general corporate law are also among her areas of expertise.
