Australia’s Thomson Geer has hired John Emmerig as a partner to boost its litigation and dispute resolution capabilities across the region.
Emmerig will play a key role in the firm’s national litigation practice, with a particular focus on class actions, high-stakes commercial disputes and major regulatory litigation.
“We see John [Emmerig’s] joining Thomson Geer as supporting our plans to execute on opportunities in the Australian market in the areas of large-scale and high-stakes litigation for our domestic and international clients,’ Adrian Tembel, Thomson Geer’s chief executive partner, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Tembel noted a rise in class action activity across emerging areas linked to cyber risk and data protection issues, along with cases expected to test corporate compliance with the new reporting obligations, particularly those relating to ESG issues and superannuation requirements.
Emmerig joins Thomson Geer from Jones Day, where he was a partner for 13 years. Prior to that, he spent 15 years as a partner at Ashurst. His core practice areas include class-action defence, major commercial disputes, and regulatory and government litigation and enquiries.
