Singaporean law firm PDLegal has established a formal law alliance with the Singapore office of UK law firm Hill Dickinson, with the partnership having taken effect on 1 August under the name, Hill Dickinson PDLegal Alliance.

Depending on the nature of the advice or transaction, PDLegal will develop a co-ordinated approach under the alliance by establishing integrated advisory teams comprising lawyers from both firms, the Singaporean firm told Asia Business Law Journal.

PDLegal added that the alliance with Hill Dickinson Singapore was exclusive, and that the partnership enhanced the Singaporean firm’s global reach and capabilities to handle cross-border transactions and disputes more effectively.

In a 22 August PDLegal press release, the exclusive alliance with Hill Dickinson’s Singapore office, which was launched in 2009, “would be able to accept instructions on Singapore and foreign, including English, law matters”, with both firms remaining separate entities.

Hill Dickinson did not respond to a request for comment by the time of publication, but, in a 22 August press release, Andrew Lee, managing partner of the UK firm’s Singapore office, said, “The decision to partner with a local law firm was in direct response to what their clients had told them them they needed.”

Established in 2017 and managed by founder Peter Doraisamy, PDLegal advises on a range of practice areas including corporate and commercial, dispute resolution, maritime and shipping. On the other hand, Hill Dickinson’s Singapore office is known for its expertise in casualty, shipping and trade disputes work with the team on the ground also handling commercial arbitration, particularly in areas including offshore and marine construction.
