Clayton Utz has added partners Geoff Shaw, Amanda Story, Edward Campbell and Suriyaa Rome to its Canberra office, boosting the firm’s capabilities in commercial litigation, real estate and the public sector.

Emma Covacevich, chief executive partner at Clayton Utz, said: “We’re growing our presence in Canberra in response to an increasing need for complex legal advice in both the private and public sectors. The Australian Capital Territory’s economy is growing and the associated requirement for expert legal advice is evolving.”

A spokesperson for Clayton Utz told Asia Business Law Journal that the firm could not confirm the start dates for the four new partners, but that it expected the start dates would be within the next few months.

Shaw will be joining Clayton Utz after 17 years at MinterEllison, where he leads the Canberra office as a managing partner. He is a litigator and dispute resolution specialist with experience in alternative dispute resolution including successful mediations, expert determinations and neutral evaluations.

Story brings nearly two decades of experience and led MinterEllison’s government practice on a national scale.

Campbell, with 10 years at MinterEllison, has experience in areas including real estate law, property development and construction.

Rome specialises in commonwealth procurement, contracting and funding. She has had seven years of experience at MinterEllison and worked at Norton Rose Fulbright in 2011.
