Simmons & Simmons has hired trademark lawyer Patsy Lau as a partner at its Hong Kong office, further strengthening its Asia intellectual property talent.

Lau has more than 20 years of experience, and has expertise in the strategy, protection, structuring and enforcement of trans-jurisdictional trademark portfolios. Her practice covers brand clearance, prosecution and portfolio strategy as well as contentious proceedings. She is qualified to represent clients before the Hong Kong High Court, and advises on M&A and IPO transactions.

Before joining Simmons & Simmons, she practised at Deacons’ Hong Kong office from 1999 and later became a partner. Between 2006 and 2007, she served as course leader and lecturer for a trademark and intellectual property law course at the School of Professional and Continuing Education at the University of Hong Kong.

Lau is dual-qualified in Hong Kong and California, and has co-ordinated international portfolios across Asia, Europe, North America and the Middle East, spanning sectors including financial services, life sciences, media and technology, luxury and fast-moving consumer goods.

Gary Yin, partner and head of the dispute resolution practice in Asia, said in a press release: “Patsy is a leading trademark practitioner in the Hong Kong market, with extensive experience in strategic advisory and brand protection. Her arrival strengthens our ability to support clients across the full spectrum of brand protection, from strategy to commercialisation.”
