Malaysian law firm RDS Partnership has appointed former Federal Court judge Harmindar Singh Dhaliwal as a partner in its litigation team and head of the international commercial and admiralty practice.

Dhaliwal brings 16 years of experience serving Malaysia’s superior courts, including five years at the Federal Court.

Saravana Kumar, founding partner and head of tax, SST (sales and service tax) and customs, said the hire formed part of RDS Partnership’s “broader growth strategy, in line with our strategic alliance with AMT (Anderson Mori & Tomotsune) of Japan”.

“His extensive background in conducting trials as well as appellate advocacy is a significant asset, and will greatly enhance the firm’s ability to deliver high-quality representation to its clients in complex matters. It is notable that he has written nearly 1,000 judgments as a judge,” Kumar told Asia Business Law Journal.

Dhaliwal also serves as chairman of the Criminal Law Review Committee, having been appointed to the role by the Minister of Law.

With Dhaliwal’s arrival, Kumar said the firm planned to continue hiring as it “remains committed to the continued growth of its litigation practice in Malaysia”.
