Rajah & Tann Thailand has strengthened its shipping and insurance practice groups with the hiring of a team from Chandler MHM in Bangkok, onboarding partner Ittirote Klinboon, counsel Rawi Mechvichai and senior associate Toon Thanakham.

“The new team allows us to further broaden the scope of our capabilities in complex cross-border deals and disputes, while also reinforcing our advisory services in areas such as regulatory compliance and risk management,” co-managing partners at Rajah & Tann Asia Supawat Srirungruang and Melisa Uremovic told Asia Business Law Journal.

As a member firm of Singapore-based Rajah & Tann Asia, Rajah & Tann Thailand is striving to meet the growing demand for specialised legal services in the Thai shipping and logistics industry, being driven by the country’s strategic location and increasing significance for international trade.

The team from Chandler MHM, which operates as part of Japanese law firm Mori Hamada & Matsumoto (MHM) Group, specialises in representing multinational organisations and businesses in maritime and insurance disputes, including advising carriers and protection and indemnity (P&I) clubs in wet and dry marine claims.

Previously practising as a counsel at Chandler MHM and an attorney-at-law at Tilleke & Gibbins, new partner Klinboon will be leading the team in, among other key responsibilities, advising and representing clients in court and arbitral proceedings in cases including maritime dispute resolution, insurance and reinsurance and risk mitigation, Asia Business Law Journal learned.

“It’s part of our long-term strategy to develop industry-focused teams that bring both specialised expertise and delivering integrated legal solutions,” Srirungruang and Uremovic said.
