Partners Chen Han Toh and Nicholas Hanna have been appointed co-heads of Pinsent Masons’ Singapore joint law venture, Pinsent Masons MPillay, to strengthen its energy and infrastructure capabilities globally.

“There has always been a strong financial flow between Singapore, the Middle East and Europe, and much of this at the moment is focused on the transition to renewable energy. Chen Han [Toh] and Nicholas [Hanna] will focus on promoting our Singapore services across our global network,” James Morgan-Payler, partner and head of Asia-Pacific (APAC) at Pinsent Masons, told Asia Business Law Journal.

He said the firm’s strongest sectors in APAC were energy and infrastructure, adding that Toh and Hanna’s expertise fed into these sectors. Their experience would help shape the leadership of the firm’s Singapore office and assist in connecting their clients across their APAC offices, as well as its network of 30 offices across four continents, Morgan-Payler added.

The duo will take over from partner and head of infrastructure and real estate Ian Laing, who is relocating to Pinsent Masons’ Riyadh office in June.

Toh has been with the firm since 2010 and specialises in resolving construction, engineering and commercial disputes.

Hanna has served as the firm’s head of corporate APAC since July 2020. Before joining Pinsent Masons, he spent six years as a partner at K&L Gates and a further six years at Watson, Farley & Williams. His practice focuses on IPOs and ICOs (initial coin offerings), private equity, joint ventures, fintech and medtech, and cross-border M&A.
