Penningtons Manches Cooper has added Zhi Chao Chor, dually qualified to practice law in Singapore and in England and Wales, as a partner to its Lion City office to strengthen its offerings in commodities and trade finance.
“Zhi Chao is a first-rate lawyer, and his acknowledged expertise will further boost the firm’s banking, trade finance and commodities practices. His experience adds to our existing strengths on the ground and complements our offering overseas,” said Johan Wong, the head of Penningtons Manches Cooper’s Singapore office.
Chor, who is a banking and finance lawyer, joins the firm from WongPartnership and previously was a partner at Rajah & Tann. His track record includes advising the bookrunning mandated lead arrangers and a group of around 30 lenders, on USD1.393 billion in credit facilities to Mercuria Energy Group, a global integrated energy and commodities trading company.
“We are seeing increasing demand for cross-border transactional work; Singapore’s strategic location, along with our well-developed legal infrastructure, continue to attract complex deals in our core sectors,” added Wong.
