South Korean law firm Lee & Ko has appointed Sangrok Shin, a former Financial Services Commission (FSC) official with two decades of public sector experience, as a partner in its financial compliance practice in Seoul.
Admitted to the Korean bar in 2006, Shin joined the FSC in 2012 after two stints at the Tax Tribunal of South Korea, which operates under the Prime Minister’s Office, and the Ministry of Finance and Economy.
Shin last served as director of the Capital Markets Investigation Co-ordination Division at the FSC and was responsible for supervising regulatory and investigative work involving financial institutions, fintech companies, insurers and asset management firms.
At Lee & Ko, Shin will advise on financial regulatory matters, including sanctions, licensing, regulatory reforms and statutory interpretation across the financial sector. His work will cover capital market investigations, electronic finance, credit information, insurance, anti-money laundering and banking.
