Jones Day has expanded its financial markets team with the recruitment of partner Kong Ming and counsel Dominic Sze to join its Hong Kong branch.

Kong, who specialises in capital markets, brings 12 years of experience to the US firm. He advised Super Hi International, the subsidiary of Haidilao, on its USD52.67 million IPO in the US, as well as Will Semiconductor on its USD445 million offering of global depositary receipts on the SIX Swiss Exchange.

Before joining Jones Day, Kong was a partner at Kirkland & Ellis and previously practised at Skadden.

Aside from Kong, several partners from Kirkland & Ellis have moved to other firms in recent months, including Paul Quinn, who joined Herbert Smith Freehills; Gary Li, who joined Zhong Lun Law Firm; and Wang Shinong, who joined DLA Piper.

Sze, on the other hand, focuses on debt capital markets in the Greater China region. He previously practised at Sidley Austin for 17 years, before joining Hong Kong boutique firm YTL as a senior of counsel and subsequently Jones Day. Sze has worked on various bond issuances such as dim sum bonds and green bonds, as well as debt restructuring.

Jones Day’s Hong Kong office partner-in-charge, Joelle Lau, said both Kong and Sze were highly regarded in the Hong Kong legal community for their work in the capital markets sector.

“At a time when some international law firms are leaving mainland China and Hong Kong, the arrival of Ming and Dominic underscore our long-term commitment to the legal and business communities here,” she said.
