Dentons Hong Kong has hired three specialists for its intellectual property (IP) and technology practice from Baker McKenzie.
Tan Loke-Khoon joins as a partner and head of practice, Dominic Edmondson as a senior consultant and head of privacy and cybersecurity, and Maria Smith as head of trademarks.

Tan worked for 36 years at Baker McKenzie, was promoted to partner in 1995, and led its regional IP and technology practice, and consumer goods and retail industry practice, for two decades, based in Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland. Earlier, he worked for two years at Singapore law firm Donaldson & Burkinshaw.
Tan focuses on structuring and protecting IP rights, including trademarks, design patents, copyright, trade names and software, as well as anti-counterfeiting strategies. His work also includes emerging areas of social media, artificial intelligence (AI) and technology law. His practice covers Hong Kong and the Chinese mainland.
Edmondson had practised for 10 years at Baker McKenzie’s Hong Kong office, where he was special counsel. Prior to that, he worked as an IP consultant at Rouse’s Beijing office, and as a registered foreign lawyer at Hogan Lovells’ Hong Kong office.
Edmondson’s practice covers global data privacy and data protection, AI, technology and IT transactions, cybersecurity, e-commerce, telecoms and digital media. .
Smith previously headed Baker McKenzie’s Hong Kong and regional brand protection and enforcement team. She advises on contentious, non-contentious and commercial IP matters, with a focus on trademarks and copyright. Her practice covers global and regional IP portfolio management, brand protection and enforcement.
She has extensive experience in developing IP protection and enforcement strategies, structuring IP rights, and advising on regional brand selection and clearance ahead of product launches.
