Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer (HSF Kramer) has bolstered its corporate practice in Tokyo with the addition of partner James Campbell.

Campbell arrives from Japanese firm Nishimura & Asahi, where he spent more than seven years, including four years as a foreign law partner.

Licensed to advise in Japan as a gaikokuho jimu bengoshi, he focuses on M&A and other corporate transactions, with experience spanning industries such as renewable energy, real estate, automotive, manufacturing, consumer products and financial services.

“James adds both Japan and US experience to our busy corporate practice – essential for our clients pursuing outbound transactions to the US. With our expanded global network, we’re managing complex transactions from Tokyo to the US within one deal team, and James’’ hire increases our capacity for these types of transactions,” Graeme Preston, HSF Kramer’s Asia managing partner, told Asia Business Law Journal.

Preston added that the firm intends to expand particular practices within its Tokyo office going forward.

“We’ll continue to add to our Tokyo transactional and disputes practices with the right hires for our clients,” he said.
