Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer has brought in Ben Thompson as a partner in Singapore to boost its energy and infrastructure capabilities in South and Southeast Asia.
“Adding a senior project finance specialist here [in Singapore] allows us to meet the demands from clients deploying capital into renewables, conventional power, digital infrastructure and other real?asset platforms across the region,” Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer’s head of corporate practice in Asia and managing partner of the Tokyo office, Andrew Blacoe, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Thompson would advise clients on renewable energy, energy transition, and environmental, social and governance (ESG)-linked financings, said Jinny Chaimungkalanont, Herbert Smith’s managing partner for finance and restructuring in Asia and Australia. He will also represent sponsors, commercial banks, multilaterals and development finance institutions.
Thompson joined Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer from Mayer Brown, where he spent 13 years as a partner and led the firm’s projects and infrastructure practice in Asia. He specialises in power and infrastructure assets, with a particular focus on conventional and renewable power, including hydropower.
