IndusLaw has become a part of CMS, a global organisation of independent law firms, with the onboarding process estimated to be completed by the end of 2025.

As part of the move, IndusLaw’s lawyers will assist multinational clients looking to enter and operate in India, while CMS’ network of 6,800 lawyers in 45 countries will likewise support IndusLaw’s clients wanting to expand globally.

Gaurav Dani, founding and senior partner of IndusLaw, told India Business Law Journal, “This is a future-ready step in IndusLaw’s growth journey.

“IndusLaw is joining CMS, becoming a full member firm and will continue to operate as an independent Indian law firm. We see exponential growth in our work for foreign clients looking to do business in India, including those who are already in India. This growth will be across the whole spectrum of legal services, including advisory, transactions and dispute resolution.”

Dani has clarified that the firm’s association with CMS is neither a merger, a joint venture nor a partnership. As part of the onboarding, the firm will adopt the joint branding of CMS IndusLaw, which will be reflected on its website in the coming weeks.

“We also see huge skilling potential for our lawyers who will benefit from the deep knowledge base of the CMS organisation and its best-in-class delivery model,” said Dani.

CMS called the move to make IndusLaw a part of its global organisation a “significant step” in its expansion across Asia and globally.

“IndusLaw is a top 10 Indian law firm with a learning culture,” said Babita Ambekar, partner and co-head of the India desk at CMS.

“This very much echoes CMS values as we believe that, no matter how large you are as an organisation, having a learning culture is essential to being top of your game. Of course, the multi-practice, multi-sector offering of IndusLaw is also one of its key strengths, as we will be looking to work together in a seamless manner across all of our practice area and sector groups.”

IndusLaw is the only Indian firm to be a part of the CMS organisation.
