GT Law, Eversheds Sutherland’s Singapore association law firm, has hired financial services regulatory specialist Yuh Huey Khoo as a partner to lead the financial services regulatory and private client practices, as the firm now expands its focus in the field of financial services.
Sze-Hui Goh, managing partner of GT Law, told Asia Business Law Journal that, although the firm had always been strong in private capital, clients looked for advice in areas that it was expanding such as financial services.
This meant that GT Law also had to deepen its capabilities in areas where it saw strong demand and long-term growth potential, with the new partner being highly experienced not only in financial services regulation, but also private client and debt capital market work, she said.
“Expanding our focus on financial services is a natural next step in our strategy,” said Goh.
She cited trends including Singapore’s hub status for digital assets, cryptocurrencies and fintech innovation – along with the Monetary Authority of Singapore’s introduction and continual update of regulatory frameworks for those areas – as factors making financial services regulatory practice a strategic area of growth.
Khoo began her legal career as an associate at Rajah & Tann Asia in 2006 and later served as a partner at WongPartnership. After practising at WongPartnership for slightly over 14 years, she joined PwC Legal network’s Singapore member firm Eng and Co, where she worked as a director, in 2022.
With nearly two decades of legal experience, Singapore-qualified Khoo advises clients including global financial institutions, billionaires, government bodies and listed corporates on financial regulation, advising across a wide spectrum from insurance, trusts to debt capital markets and employment.
In the financial services regulatory space, Khoo advises financial institutions and corporates on matters including licensing and applications, audits and investigations as well as statutory transfers and business restructuring in addition to insurance-related legal issues.
With Khoo’s addition, GT Law now counts four partners, three senior associates and four associates in its ranks.
