Freshfields has added IP and technology, media and telecommunications partner, Harry Evans, to its global transactions practice in Singapore to expand capabilities in the tech and life sciences sectors.

“Harry strengthens our tech and life sciences capabilities in the region, with Singapore being an important regional hub for tech firms,” Freshfield’s managing partner in Asia, Matthew O’Callaghan, told Asia Business Law Journal.

He added that Evans’ hiring forms part of the firm’s Asia strategy and would support continued growth in the tech and life sciences sectors.

Evans joins Freshfields from Herbert Smith Freehills Kramer in Singapore, where he served as co-head of the Asia IP and commercial team. With more than 15 years of experience, Evans advises on business-critical matters spanning tech, IP and general commercial issues. His expertise also includes complex commercial arrangements, particularly in the life sciences and tech sectors.

O’Callaghan has also seen a greater dispersion of opportunities in Asia, which has also grown in Japan and throughout Southeast Asia. He notes that the firm’s focus has been on ensuring it has the right bench across the region to support clients, and Evans’ arrival will be another building block in executing that strategy.

Evans will work closely with Richard Bird, head of IP and data practice group in Asia, as well as the wider global team, to grow its IP and data offering. He would also collaborate and work closely with the firm’s leading M&A, antitrust and disputes teams in Asia, the US and Europe, said O’Callaghan.
