Shanghai-headquartered Duan & Duan Law Firm has received regulatory approval to establish a Guangzhou office, its second branch in Guangdong province following Shenzhen, as part of its ongoing expansion in the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macau Greater Bay Area (GBA).

The firm said in a press release that Guangzhou, as a core engine of the GBA, served as an important hub connecting domestic and international markets. The Guangzhou office would leverage the region’s distinctive advantage of the “one country, two systems, three jurisdictions” framework, and support domestic and overseas clients in doing business in the GBA and global markets, it said.

The new branch marks Duan & Duan’s 41st office worldwide and its 31st in the Chinese mainland.

The firm began its Greater Bay Area expansion in 2006 with the opening of a branch in Hong Kong and struck an association with local city law firm Anthony Siu & Co in 2023. It also set up its Shenzhen office in 2013.

The Guangzhou office is located on the 58th floor of the CTF Finance Centre, the tallest building in the city, and is expected to open in the second half of this year.

Its practice areas cover intellectual property protection, administrative and criminal litigation, civil and commercial matters, labour disputes, corporate bankruptcy, M&A, debt acquisitions, asset restructuring and private equity funds. The office will also focus on sectors including real estate, finance, the internet, commercial trade and construction.
