JSA advised Donau Carbon, a business unit of Donau Chemie Group, on its acquisition of Kalpa Char Products for an undisclosed amount.
The JSA transaction team comprised lead partner Anand Lakra, partner Niharika Mepani, principal associate Ami Shah, senior associate Jinay Shah, and associates Diya Dave and Rahi Barfiwala.
This marks the Donau Chemie Group’s first investment in India, which is a part of its global expansion in the activated carbon industry.
Donau Chemie Group is a diverisified company comprising four business units, with a portfolio of chemical production and distribution. Its units manufacture application-specific compounds, activated carbons, air and gas cleaning plants, as well as a range of consumer goods in the comestics, household and technology sectors.
Donau Carbon is one of the world’s leading manufacturers of activated carbon. The company produces a variety of powdered, granular and extruded activated carbon grades, produced from raw materials such as coal, lignite, coconut shell and wood, using all standard activation processes.
Kalpar Char, which did not engage an external law firm for the deal, manufactures coconut shell charcoal that is used to produce activated carbon at its factory in Karnataka state.
