Ashurst has welcomed back Gareth Hughes, who rejoins the firm’s Hong Kong office as a partner in the dispute resolution practice after more than seven years away.
Hughes has practised for more than 20 years in Hong Kong, and focused on commercial litigation, international arbitration and regulatory defence. He advised major corporates, financial institutions and high-net-worth individuals on complex commercial disputes, with experience in cross-border dispute resolution. He also advised on internal and regulatory investigations, including matters involving the Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission, the Hong Kong Monetary Authority, Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing and the Independent Commission Against Corruption.
From 2002 to 2011, Hughes served as a partner at Simmons & Simmons. He later joined Ashurst as a partner and served as head of the firm’s Asia disputes practice. In October 2018, he left Ashurst and joined Debevoise & Plimpton’s Hong Kong office as a litigation partner, where he practised for more than seven years.
Hughes said in a statement: “Having previously been a partner at Ashurst’s Hong Kong office earlier in my career, I am delighted to return to the firm and to work with colleagues across the network to support clients on their most complex disputes. The firm’s commitment to growing its disputes practice in Asia and its global platform provides an excellent foundation to deliver value to clients.”
