Summit, awards celebrate Indonesian in-house excellence

The Indonesian Corporate Counsel Association (ICCA) and Hukumonline co-hosted the In-House Counsel Summit & Awards (IHCA) 2024 at the Westin Resort Nusa Dua Bali from 17-18 October.

The summit brought together more than 300 legal experts, business leaders and technology innovators, fostering unity within the legal community.

Guests were welcomed by Seradesy Sumardi, ICCA president and general counsel at L’Oréal Indonesia; Arkka Dhiratara, CEO of Hukumonline; and Diki Andikusumah, partner at Nurjadin Sumono Mulyadi & Partners.

The In-house Counsel Elite 2024 list recognised more than 100 top in-house counsel including: Chandra Silaen, head of general legal advisory at Maybank Indonesia; Lingga Nugraha, head of corporate legal and compliance at Garuda Indonesia; Richard Kurniadi, general counsel at Kimberly-Clark Softex; and Randi Ikhlas Sardoni, ICCA vice president and group general counsel at Hijra.

The IHCA awards honoured dedication to legal excellence and the role of awardees in the success of their organisations. They were segmented into four main categories: in-house counsel leader of the year; most innovative in-house counsel team; most respected in-house counsel; and in-house counsel team of the year.

The in-house counsel leader of the year was Naga Waskita, legal director and corporate secretary at Austindo Nusantara Jaya, while Aplikanusa Lintasarta received the in-house counsel team of the year award.

The 23 recipients of most innovative in-house counsel team included: Bank Rakyat Indonesia for banking; Lazada Indonesia for e-commerce and internet; Jakarta Industrial Estate Pulogadung for infrastructure and construction; Jasa Raharja for insurance; Pertamina for oil and gas; Profesional Telekomunikasi Indonesia for telecommunications; and Garuda Indonesia for transportation, among others.

For Indonesia’s most respected in-house counsel, 23 winners from various industrial fields were also selected. Among the awardees were Andi Hartanto, corporate secretary and legal head at Astra Honda Motor, for distribution; Perdana Saputro, division head of corporate legal at Mineral Industri Indonesia, for mining; Alexander F Widjanarko, director and chief compliance, risk, and culture officer at Hanwha Life Insurance Indonesia, for insurance; and Sandy Dwinanto, head of the legal division at Bank Negara Indonesia, for banking.

The in-house counsel choice 2024 was a separate award recognising outstanding lawyers and law firms endorsed by in-house counsel in Indonesia for their professionalism and excellence. These awardees comprised 70 partners across 32 law firms.

The gathering also featured a panel discussion on digitalisation and disruption of law, a talk on ESG compliance, a law firm exhibition, and roundtable discussions with law firms.
