Providence Law Asia has appointed disputes lawyer Colin Liew as its new director and head of international litigation, boosting the firm’s practice in Singapore.
“Over 90% of our cases are international or cross-border. These cases are intellectually stimulating … There is no doubt in my mind: Colin will turbocharge our already thriving disputes practice and take us to new heights,” Abraham Vergis, managing director at Providence Law Asia, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Liew, formerly an independent practitioner at Duxton Hill Chambers, has experience in commercial fraud, legal privilege and international arbitration.
As head of international litigation at Providence Law Asia, Liew will oversee multi-jurisdictional disputes, leading the firm’s continued expansion in handling complex cross-border cases.
Liew, told Asia Business Law Journal, that his immediate focus is to enhance the visibility of the firm’s capabilities in handling high-value, high-stakes disputes. “For instance, Providence Law Asia is currently handling a high-value case, which will consider the case law of the Court of Justice of the European Union that intra-EU arbitration violates EU law,” said Liew.
