O’Melveny’s New York-based partner, Portia Ku, will succeed Walker Wallace, who retired on 30 June, as the new managing partner in the firm’s Shanghai office starting on 1 September.
With 25 years of experience in capital markets and M&A, Ku has advised numerous Chinese companies on their US and Hong Kong IPOs. She had represented Giant Interactive Group on its USD1 billion debut in New York in 2007 in the largest US Chinese private company listing that year. She specialises in advising industries such as life sciences, healthcare, green energy and fintech.
Ku, qualified in Taiwan, New York and California, had previously been based in 翱’惭别濒惫别苍测’s Shanghai and Hong Kong branches, before relocating to the US to join its Silicon Valley and New York offices.
翱’惭别濒惫别苍测 expected its M&A and private equity businesses would grow following Ku’s return to Shanghai, while Ku saw tremendous opportunities in the Chinese market and projects that deal activity would rebound, the firm said.
