Singapore-based firm Oon & Bazul has brought onboard Elan Krishna as a partner to address the increasing volume of cross-border disputes.
“We are seeing a significant uptick of high-value, cross-border disputes both in the arbitration and litigation space in the last two to three years,” Bazul Ashhab, managing partner and head of dispute resolution at Oon & Bazul, told Asia Business Law Journal.
Formerly a partner at Clifford Chance’s Singapore office, Krishna is experienced in international arbitration, particularly in high-stakes, multi-jurisdictional cases. He also worked at Drew & Napier as an associate.
Ashhab highlighted the firm’s decision to bring in Krishna as a response to the increasing demand for expertise in international commercial arbitrations.
“Singapore’s strong reputation as a dispute resolution hub has encouraged many South Asian and Middle Eastern entities to utilise SIAC [Singapore International Arbitration Centre] arbitration and the Singapore International Commercial Court to resolve their disputes,” he said. “We have been fortunate to have developed a reputation as one of the leading conflict-free dispute practices in the region and captured some of this work.”
Krishna will help expand the firm’s arbitration and litigation capabilities, with a focus on cases spanning diverse jurisdictions and sectors. As part of his role, Krishna will also work closely with junior lawyers.
