Nagashima Ohno & Tsunematsu has strengthened its tax practice with the addition of former commissioner of Japan’s National Tax Agency (NTA), Hitoshi Sumisawa, to its team of special advisers in Tokyo.

The Tokyo-based law firm has told Asia Business Law Journal that, through Sumisawa’s deep tax planning and execution knowledge and extensive human network within the tax bureau, it seeks to provide more effective tax solutions to its clients.
Sumisawa, who is not a registered lawyer and began his career at the Ministry of Finance in 1988, served as the NTA’s head before assuming his role as a special adviser at Nagashima Ohno.
He has joined a bench of special advisers at Nagahsima Ohno, including former justices of the Supreme Court of Japan, Hiroyuki Kanno and Yuko Miyazaki.
