The Legal Management Council of the Philippines (LMCP), the oldest in-house counsel organisation in Asia, has elected Alicia Salita as its new president.

“LMCP is 60 years old this year, and it is important to keep the organisation at the forefront and relevant in the changing needs, structures and new generation of in-house counsel,” Salita told Asia Business Law Journal.

She succeeds Arlene Lapuz Ureta, who is also the secretary-general of the Asia Pacific Corporate Counsel Alliance (APCCA).

Salita, the chief legal officer of Home Credit Philippines, brings more than two decades of experience from ING, where she served as the head of legal.

Her immediate focus has been to deliver targeted development opportunities for in-house lawyers. Earlier this year, the LMCP organised a 32-unit mandatory continuing legal education programme, specifically designed around the interests and needs of in-house counsel.

The LMCP will continue to strengthen its international ties as part of the APCCA and In-House Counsel Worldwide networks, while also supporting member communities such as the corporate counsel associations of Singapore, Indonesia and Thailand.

Looking ahead, Salita outlined key initiatives for the LMCP, including a mentorship programme that pairs young members with senior volunteer mentors, proposed reforms to continuing legal education in partnership with the Supreme Court and law schools, and efforts to expand the LMCP’s membership base across diverse industries.

Salita said the role allows her to continue supporting the in-house community, while also ensuring that Philippine counsel remain active and relevant in the global in-house legal network.

To mark its diamond anniversary, the council is planning a celebration in 2026, with the participation of past directors, officers and founding members.
